Where to camp at the end of SH 32 on the Nth Island?

Postby JohnStrider » Tue 30 Dec, 2014 10:12 pm

Hello there folks,

I was wondering if any of you would be able to help me find a place to pitch a tent somewhere in the vicinity of the end of SH 32/Lake Kuratau? From there I will be making my way through to Tongariro Holiday Park.

Any help/advice/tips etc on the area in between would be most grateful.

JS

dont do it, nz isnt a free for all for camping, too many people in summer camp wherever they want next to roads, and leave their crap everywhere, its not legal to camp wherever you want , lots of councils have laws against it now because of the human waste left near roads, in parks and on private land... be a good chap and go and camp at a designated campsite and put a bit of money into the local economy rather than just try and get a cheap trip like too many other travellers do..
chances are you could find somewhere that looks nice, pull over and find others have had the same thoughts... and find yourself surrounded by toilet paper, excrement and all the other rubbish left by thoughtless tourists, there are a hell of a lot of those travelling through nz, they travel a limited no of roads and frequent similar places over and over, ruining them..
rant over, enjoy your NZ trip and be responsible. thanks

take a look at the many DOC campsites available around the country and use them, they are there to be used like people such as yourself

Yeah all over the responsibility of legally camping. Probably didn't word my post too well. I've been researching the area and I can't seem to find a camp site close by. I've planned the route I'd like to take and this is the only stop where I haven't been able to find a legal camp site. I'm planning on booking the Waihaha Hut as my stop for the previous day. I just need to find somewhere to stay between there and Tongariro Holiday Park that won't kill my body to get there haha.

Any where nearby will do
