Hypothermia makes it really hard to parse what might have happened. Its such an insidious thing. Hopefully we can learn somethings from this as the investigation continues.

they picked a non standard, long route, some of it over demanding exposed terrain. could well have been twelve hours or more walk in a single day..

The weather conditions as described in that report don't seem so extreme - others have survived far worse conditions.

And there were others in the same area at the time.

So certainly a puzzling event.

theres varying reports on the weather. I know the area well, and its notorious for localised extreme weather, i lived nearby and the difference in weather could be marked, people get caught out in the warmer seasons, the seasonal weather isnt cut and dry at all...
