This is a place to share fair and systematic reviews of gear. Share the good, bad and ugly as well as including how you tested it and reviewed the gear. This is not the place to carry on about a bit of gear that failed, sometimes good gear has a lemon - this is more about systematic reviews. Although this can be a way to help gear manufactures with feedback, this is not the place to hassle them or ask for money back.

Start each thread with

If someone else has already reviewed the same product in a similar method then please use the initial thread to include your review. Please note if the gear was provide to you for free, loan, discount or if you paid full RRP.

Princeton Tec Byte headlamp $40.38

I bought a PTec Byte from Wildearth for $40.38 and quite like it.
It is slightly bigger than the Ion model I have due to its bracket for tilting.
Takes any two aaa no worries.
Has a rubbery button on top for changing from red, white then to a bright led.
Has a lock slide on one end to prevent accidental turning on.
Is comfortable and can sleep with it on.
Compared to my Ion which had a diffused light, the red light is more useful, to almost 2m. The first white light is good to 10m+ then the max bright is good to say 40m+.
Is somewhere between a spot and broad beam.
Does not have a strobe function and to turn off you must cycle through the other beams.
All round a nice simple package.

minor update
Have been very happy with this little torch.
Small and all lamps useful.
Red, low white and high white.
As the batteries wear down you lose high white, then red, and finally low white gets more dim.
