Westmoreland Falls

Postby Davo1 » Thu 28 Feb, 2013 10:46 am

I'm ashamed to admit that I have never been to Westmoreland Falls until yesterday.
Definately another Tassie jewel, I always find it hard to comprhend that places like this that are so easily accessible are not promoted more. If they were it may take some pressure off other heavily advertised areas, I suppose though as always there is fors and against to both sides.
Parks is doing a terrific job with the upgrades to the track, bridges etc., I only hope the large bridge they have put in stays there. After seeing the damage of the 2011 deluge I wonder?? The amount of water that came down off the mountain must have been a sight to see.
Sorry I didn't take any pics of the works in progress with the track etc but I am sure that anyone that takes the time to visit the falls will appreciate it.
Apart from the humidity, all in all a very enjoyable short (very short) and picturesque walk, had plenty of time to visit other attractions in the area.

Great photos Davo1. Looks like an amazing place and the falls are stunning. What part of Tassie is Westmoreland Falls located?

Very Nice.
Good to see it looking like that.
I'd heard they were nearly washed away in Jan 11  . Floods ravaged that neck of the woods.
Still a very large landslide on front of Tiers. Obvious from many miles away.
Went past that way other day.
Now I know it's still worthwhile will call in.

Thanks for posting

That's wonderful news Davo. Walked in there for the first time 4 or 5 years ago and was planning a return walk when I heard the falls had completely disappeared. Terrible timing as so much effort had gone into trackwork, which was not quite complete when we visited. Not only spectacular falls, but the forest at the start of the walk was particularly beautiful. Many thanks for letting us know it's still there, and for sharing your great photos.

Yep, thanks for letting us know it's open again, Davo, and for showing us it's definitely worth a visit!

Is there any news of Westmoreland Falls access since the June floods?

Hi Chris,

A friend of ours went out there in December and all seemed fine http://www.jadehallam.com/single-post/2016/12/08/Westmorland-Falls.

Thank you Simon and Davo.
My first visit was before the 2011 flood, and I did think it was better than after the "repairs". From memory the track followed the creek more closely - more interesting, despite some rather hairy log crossings.
Maybe it's a bit less civilised again now, so improved again :)
