Du Cane Traverse

Thu 15 Dec, 2016 3:20 pm

So I was going to write up a trip report, but am too lazy at the moment. Here are some photos of a trip around the Du Canes/Labyrinth etc from 11/12 - 14/12/16.

Image
A nice morning to start at Narcissus.

Image
Beautiful high camp on Castle Crag on a nice night.

A magical sunset on Castle Crag.

The "Big Gun" of Big Gun Pass.

Image
One of the nicest sites we've ever had - Lake Helios. Soft, cushy grass and ample spots to choose from, plenty of water around and some great views over the lake. Quite exposed though, which was a theme for our campsites this trip.

Image
Geryon and friends as seen from the top of the track back down to The Labyrinth.

Image
Checking out some future walks from the top of Walled Mountain.

Image
Lovely last light from Walled Mountain. Plenty of cloud around a sign of things to come overnight...

Image
The tent before we went to sleep...

Image
...the tent after we woke up. Although to be fair, I didn't sleep much that night, as it was pretty damned windy. Very exposed up there, not much shelter to be found, but amazing views of practically everything.

Image
Mt Eros looking moody on the way back down.

Image
The Geryon looking similarly foreboding.

Ended up calling the trip short and missing out on Macs/Nereus/Gould due to snow, but still a great 4 day trip. 4 new Abels for us, bringing our count up to 82. We were stoked to make it over the halfway mark!

Thanks for looking :)

Great shots bigbird! Love the contrast between your before and after tent shots... I guess that's why they say be prepared :)

Great photos !

I skipped Walled Mt and did Acropolis and Hyperion instead for a 5 Abel trip last week and got nothing but sunshine ;)

Well isn't it nice for some... Haha ah well, them's the breaks I guess. Just gotta get out there anyway! Heading off to the Southern Ranges on Monday, forecast looks like wind and rain... Surprise! Hopefully it clears out by the time we get to PB though, really would dearly love to get some views from up there.

Thanks all for the kind words.

Cheers!

Yeah, even in nice weather I reckon any swim up there would be brief :P

Sorry for the small photos, I'm cross posting from my tumblr, and it's either too big or too small, so too small seemed the better choice! If you are interested in looking at bigger versions (and other photos), feel free to check them all out here.
