Adamsons, The Calf and Mesa

Yesterday forum members ILUVSWTAS, pazzar and myself set out to climb Adamsons, The Calf and Mesa. A 5am meeting time was agreed upon, reaching the Adamson's carpark just before 6. We were atop Adamson's by 8:30, cloud shifting around on the ascent. The views were quite poor at this point and the weather was very similiar on The Calf an hour later. The Calf was a highlight for me, its a very rugged little peak. The sheer face of the Adamson's facing side is very impressive. The ridge was then followed back from the Calf, all low sedges until the plateau edge was encountered. Here there is a very nice sandstone shelf, any bouldering nut's wet dream, but a long way to carry a mat.

The mist completely clagged in as we reached Mesa, a rather uninspiring lump, but I imagine the views would be quite unique on a good day. Walking was very open up until the last 290m of Mesa where a nice stand of Dwarf Murtle and a further array of charming species were encountered. As we begun to retrace our route the mist still hung over, but just before the Calf it began to clear. As we rounded the brunt of it we had almost full views, excluding Pindars and PB. Once on top of Adamson's the views were perfect and we lingered a bit before commencing the final slog down to the car. We hit the boardwalk, and the car soon after at about 4, very pleased with our day.

Nice work Marco. Looks like you took advantage of mixed weather to get close to some of the smaller "scenery". I particularly like the second sundew image,

Yes, the views from Mesa are pretty good, PB looks quite close from there (below)...

and if its bad weather, your not at the summit until the big cairn :wink:
you dont want to experience premature summit elation

I've been told not to summit if bad weather, due to a lack of shelter at the top and the risk of getting stuck. How bad is it up there?

See how we go! Both of us are seasoned walkers, but well and truly unfit currently. The slow plod might hopefully get us out there :D

?? Same as most Tas mountains, the track is easy enough to follow in poor vis, when we did it we had 15m visibility and got to a small outcrop which we assumed was the summit as we couldnt see anything higher, until someone got the GPS out to see we had another 100m vertical or so to go

Weather looks perfect for you. Once on the plateau just use common sense. It's an easy mountain to get off if weather is crap.
