OK, I did meander out that way, but on Sunday when the weather was less inviting. Bit grey, drizzling to light rain etc. Judds Creek Rd was damp, not wet, nor slippery. BUT am I a wimp or has there been some wash out of the approach to the creek crossing? It looked like lots of large rocks without any smaller packing around them to provide a reasonable route to the crossing itself. I was in a 4wd but given the increasing rain and darkening sky, I decided I'd just turn round now and go back.

Nice drive though

I made it part way across the approach but was being tossed around a bit - maybe I chose the worst line possible, and I turned on the grassy verge to the right hand side. I would have got across but decided the outlook wasn't great and the effort to get there with cameras etc probably not worth it.

Has anyone been out there recently? Is the approach still looking a bit dishevelled? I might venture out again this weekend - leaving my wimpness behind this time....

I'm hoping it is still there (I assume it is?)

GerryDuke wrote:I drove up to the start of the falls last week. Quite a long way up. The road was fairly steep after crossing Judds Creek. The sign was very clear. However, the start conflicts with the comment made by Ben.h below. Coincidently, John Cannon described the walk in his weekly column in the Sunday Tasmanian on June 19th.

There are a few things to clear up:
[list]
[*] The start of the track is no longer from the wooden sign (as mentioned by huonforest), rather, it is another 50 metres further up the road on the right hand fork (i.e. the new road, not the old tasmanian trail). Here you will see a plastic sign on the right hand side of the road. [/*]

That wooden sign is on a track that is intersected (and cut off by) by the logging road on the right fork. The start of the trail now is accessed from just a little way along that right hand fork and is marked by a plastic sign as I stated in my original post.

Having said that, that was almost 18 months ago so it could well be very different now.

I can 't answer that as I didn't get that far - the track you refer to is on the other side of the creek I didn't cross.....

I remember reading that it has been moved to another day - Saturdays from memory.

Headed up to Billy Brown Falls this week. There was a nice flow coming over the falls. Very slippery in places. The sign indicating the start of the falls has been moved as per ben.h's posts.

The Parks & Wildlife Service recently cleared windfalls on the track to Billy Brown Falls, nothing to vault over, very mint track right now.

Does this mean The falls are now part of a park or reserve? Or are they still managed by Forestry Tas?

Area was added to the Tasmanian Reserve Estate on the 18th December 2013. Now known as the 'Russell Ridge Conservation Area' it's managed by the Parks and Wildlife Service Field Centre at Huonville.
