Take all sorts of batteries with you. You are always sure to find electronic equipment that they will fit into!

Well lately anyway.

Don't let your dog eat your Western Mountaineering sleeping bag

There is enough down in a Western Mountaineering sleeping bag to fill a lounge room which delays the anger of finding the dog has eaten your Vasque boots as well.

You too, huh?! So what can we do about it???

The only solutions I can see are to stop walking or to go with someone who knows the easiest way up. Neither appeals. I'll just keep stumbling along in 'explorer' mode.
btw, have you ever noticed: the highest point on the mountain is always at the furthest end of the ridge from the main access point.
I vaguely remember one exception to that rule, but I can't remember what it was... perhaps it was in a dream. :?

That had me laughing so much I couldn't reply for at least five minutes. Thank you.

When carrying large, heavy items in your very spiffy GoLite Pinnacle, don't forget that you last used it as a daypack - you need to unclip the bottom before the clips pop off under the weight.

When you're taking photos on the beach and a wave comes mid-exposure, it's best not to leave the camera and tripod to fend for themselves as you run up the beach away from the wave. Things could go very very badly...

Luckily my camera gear didn't go spearing into the shore break but it guaranteed I won't be doing that again. It's much safer to call the shot a loss, move the camera, and try again.

And even if not, as long as there's a spare camera battery in there, your day won't be completely wasted.

This is just a saying one of my survival instructors said to me when I was in the army and has stuck with me. As well as never have your rifle more than a meter away . Dont have to worry about that anymore. As a result I always carry a small kit in my pocket and larger one in my pack.

There was a guy the usa who rolled his quadbike. He had a survival kit strapped to the back of the quad but could not reach it because the bike had pinned him down. If he had one in his pocket it may have helped him.

Also people have been know to wonder off to find a toilet spot and get lost or somehow become separated from their pack.
Its a lot harder to lose your pants than your pack.
Maybe im a bit over equipped but I feel a bit safer. You dont plan to be in a survival situation but with a kit it you can make a world of difference. Was also taught the 5 P's. Prior preparation prevents poor performance.

I'd heard of the 6 Ps...

The good thing about solo walking is that you can take your pack with everything with you when you go and poop. Extra safety and harder to get lost.
Men wanted for hazardous journey. Low wages, bitter cold, long hours of complete darkness. Safe return doubtful.

Yes normally it is the 6 ps for me to, but when I typed it in I got #$%× for the 4th p.
So I made it 5.

Curiosity got to me, Googled 6Ps, this was one of the top hits:

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/7_Ps_(military_adage)

So I guess I've learned that now.

Lesson from a few weeks ago:

Always pack a Mylar blanket.

Take your pack off when you go. I saw the results of an over balance once, definitely NOT pretty. Poor bloke carried that Nick name for years
