Luckily I escaped the worst of it Nick but I still resembled that tent somewhat. Happened at 2am at a height of around 4,500m so was pretty lucky really, especially since the landslide was followed by a huge rush of freezing water. It's not nice to be woken and hear people screaming "mountain falling, big water coming". No one seriously injured in that instance thankfully

It was a Marmot Titan for memory. We used these at Base Camp only, but I can say the Mountain Hardware Trango tents that we used high up were brilliant. I'll post a couple of pics when I get a chance

It was at Muztagh Ata base camp in the Kunlun Shan mountain range in far western China back in 2010. And yep, it was a bit of brown-pants episode! There was a lot of devastation in the general area and in nearby Pakistan

I bet! How did you access that area? Sounded like a full write-up on its own. It's amazing how it's a volcanic mountain range.

Yep, it certainly is a long trip from Tassi to that part of the world. Flew to Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan via Istanbul. That was three days. It was then a rough jeep ride traversing the country from north to south and then over a high pass into Xinjian provence in China. That took two days. Then it was another day down the Karakoram Highway towards Pakistan. A half day hike got us to BC where we spent a month or so. I'd say it would be possible to get to there from eastern China though as I did a detour on the way home to near the border of Mongolia. It is close to the border of Afghanistan so I suppose you could always fly to Kabul and hike overland

You're right in the fact that the Kunlun Shan is volcanic. I'm not sure about Muztagh Ata though as it is sometimes regarded by some as being in the Pamir Range, which is part of an uplift called the Pamir Knot. I have also heard that the area is a result of the shockwave from the formation of the Himalaya.

Oops, I think I may have strayed from the photography topic a bit there...

It is close to the border of Afghanistan so I suppose you could always fly to Kabul and hike overland

Pass on that one! Or until a time when the area is peaceful again.

Would certainly be interested in hearing more of your expedition to that part of the world. Maybe a separate thread with photos in the International subforum?

I did the Mount Anne Circuit on my own a few months ago. Lucky enough to pick a weather window so it was spectacular.
First pic is on the Eliza Plateau and the next one at the top of track just before it dives down onto the plains and Anne River.
Note double guy lines for each corner, even though the forecast was good it still made me nervous camping in such exposed locations.

I do like the look of those Goondies. I think they'd make a good snow tent.
As for exposure, a good tent can take a surprising amount of punishment. All of mine have withstood some very nasty conditions, both here and on the mainland.

Yeah, I am sure you are right but I see the tent as a real life saving bit of kit so it has to be rock solid. Maybe i'm a bit paranoid.
The Goondies are a great tent, so far I have no complaints.
I love high camping though, just great to be on top of mountains when they are so placid.

Yeah just a typical campsite. I prefer waterside views myself, you know where you can immerse yourself in nature and feel at one with your environment.

A couple of weeks ago, we came down to Snowy mountain near Adaminaby and explored Nangar Creek area. The first night it was icy cold but warmer bit next day.
