Long day walks with dog?

Postby devoswitch » Wed 11 Jun, 2014 1:33 pm

Does anyone know of any long day walks that I can take my dog on? Preferably as close to Hobart as possible? I have a young kelpie puppy and she is very able an wiling to walk long distances and I take her on all the ones I can on the eastern face of the mountain just looking for some longer more remote walks. Thanks heaps :-)

Peter Murrell reserve - onto Huntingfield Rd at the Fork in the Road roundabout on Channel Hwy past Kingston
http://www.tassietrails.org/component/c ... ll-reserve

Meehan Range - from the car park on Flagstaff Gully link Rd at Mornington

Tangara trails between Acton down to Sandford
http://www.tangararectrails.org.au/

A bit further away -

Murdunna - the road opposite the shop - Hylands Rd leads into State Forest area & lots of tracks (take a map)

Just 5km past Murdunna shop on Arthur Hwy - turn left to Macgregor Rd & into State Forest for lots more trails & Fire Tower area.

Have a good time.

from matt.

What sort of map would you suggest for the trails in te murdunna area? Far out buddy just been reading through a lot of your blogs on your website. Might I say that you have done some amazing things! Very inspirational. Well done!!

the 1:100,000 scale tasmaps would probably have enough detail to get by if you are on fire trails. If you get onto smaller walking tracks then the 1:25000 scale tasmaps for the particular area has the detail. The map shop in Elizabeth St, Hobart is very helpful.

There are also lots of the map apps on smart phones - some of which require a phone signal & some you can install on your phone & don't need a signal. (one of the last topics on this site related to phone maps).

I use Memory Maps for all of tassie on my phone & don't need a signal or use data - but I had already bought the computer version of their maps which made it a lot cheaper for the computer licence.

Another option is the 1:25000 scale topographic maps on www.thelist.tas.gov.au

Haha my little puppy is still learning recall and to not jump up on people etc that's why I want something a little more remote.
