Great photo

I have been on the Red Tape Creek track to Lake Judd a few times - but it has never looked this clear.
However, that is where I think you were - fairly close to the road as it starts to head up. Scotts Peak is the island on the right.

Spot-on eggs, one of the best days on track I've had in Tasmania and this shot sits on my desktop to remind me while I fritter away my existence.

Your turn :)

I have never gone further than a cloud enshrouded Schnell's Ridge - although I have friends who would dearly love to do the circuit.
Maybe.... one day - all that mud! ... sigh

Anyway - next one

The Strollers should know this one Eggs. Looks like the daunting ledge approaching the sumit of Mt Murchison.

There must be a huge number of waterfalls in Tasmania.
So how many of you out there have been to this one? I know I haven't - but I have crossed the Hellyer River.....

I had "cheated" by checking out GerryDukes web pages.
He has some lovely descriptions and photos from a wide area of Tas.
This one is not on the Hellyer River - but it is nearby.
You just need to go for wandle.

Gerry, when you tell Eggs he is correct, can you tell the rest of us how to get there. Do you park near the bridge? Is there a track or do you have to go in via the Forestry road?

Have anothher go Eggs. Wandle Falls they are! I noticed these falls on the map one day and went off in search of them. A few kilometres south of the Hellyer Gorge on the old Murchison Hwy the road crosses the Wandle River. There is a car park of sorts on the far right hand side (SW). If you walk into the forest beyond the first row of trees there is a track to the falls. about a 10 minute walk only.

I wasn't really trying to win - just give some hint.
But that last sentence was mistyped. Meant to say go for a 'wandle' as a play on the word wander.
[Note: There is more detail on access on Gerry's site under Wandle Falls.]

So anyone else can put up the next one. [I need to digitise more old slides]

But I should issue a challenge - sometime ago I rejoiced when a shot from the King William Range went up. I said it was the last "area' in my division of Tas that had not been represented.
Now my division of Tas is unique and probably very inequitable - but it turns out there is one reasonable sized Range that is featured in lots of posts but from which we have had no entries.
It is near the OT but outside the park towards the west. Would be nice if someone could fill in that hole.

It looks to me like the kind of rock I would find near Frenchmans.
It also looks like the tarn to the north of North Col, except for the "island" rocks which I don't remember. And that it isn't wide enough.
So I don't know.

So, my first post here in about 57,394 pages (well, a lot). I've missed a fair bit. Anyone keeping count?

walkinTas is the official stats man - I have got out of step somewhere.
I think there have been 390 where am I's - with a lot of auxilliary photos. I have you on 22 submissions and19 correct solutions - same as ILUVSWTAS.
Welcome back.

This is a typical swifty brain stretcher. The shape of it makes me think that the top of the photo has been removed?
My mind has gone over Denisons/Spires area (right kind of rock & feel for vegetation - and I know he has been out that way), to Frenchmans, to Western Arthurs, to Schnells Ridge & the Frankland Range.
So far I have come up empty. Best I can think of is Windy Lake, but highly doubtful - the islands are wrong.

But wait - Looking again - there are islands like that on Lake Curly! If so - this shot would be from the side of the north ridge off Mt Curly with the beach at Lake Curly obscured?
{edit - actually you can see the beach}
Amanda had put in a photo looking up the length of Lake Curly.

nearly thought I had you there eggs, it is of course lake curly, I attach the uncropped photo where you can clearly see Conical Mountain & Shining Mountain. The beach is just down near the outlet behind that line of trees. Once again from my 1980 vintage slides, looking forward to getting back there soon, maybe this summer :D

Thanks swifty - I made that a bit hard for myself. I think I misjudge the size of these lakes in the photos.
I went right past Curly without a second thought - it was only a last check when responding to tasadam that got me considering it as an option.

Still haven't go to process my old slides.
So anyway - where am I?

Way to keep count Eggs, and great work on figuring that one out! As I was reading it the shape of the lake really gave it away for me! Olegas Truchanas has a similar shot in his book!

Looking forward to getting in there myself Swifty!

Eggs that looks like somewhere on the Hazards Traverse....

You had better explain what you mean by the Hazards Traverse - are you talking off track?

This is actually on a quite popular track. Though probably a lot more dangerous than one would suspect - despite the warnings at the start.

Yes - the Amos track it is.
I know people traverse the Hazards, but I was not aware of a track for that.

And this track sure is slippery when wet - as we discovered.
I went with just sneakers rather than boots - great grip when dry - like ice when wet. And there were showers passing through that day.
Add to that some very steep sections with large drops - and slipping would be life threatening in some places.

Yeh it was pretty slippery when I was up there recently, I followed an older couple from NSW part of the way down watching him slip over quite regularly. Indeed it could be nasty in places.
And I dont think there is a track for the traverse, pretty easy off track walking though.

Hehe yeh 18x zoom on my poor beaten up camera. Wylds it is!
Your shot of Curly got me thinking about the Spires/Pow again and I remembered my day up there! Got a nice one of Diamond peak from Wylds as well but that would have been even more obvious :)

I was initially thinking it was something like Ossa from the Lake Helios area, but not enough lumpy bits in the immediate background to make sense of it.
So I had some fun instead.
