This was a kind of a "sea to summit" walk. I started near a large lake and climbed from about 310m ASL to about 907m ASL at the top.
Not very remote but the view at the top was quite remarkable.

hey John. If no one has any ideas after a few days, its time to post another photo of the area or, choose another area people can try and guess
cheers..

i have a rough idea of the region, north canterbury i'd say, but that photo could be anywhere there.

Yes I might have picked a view too obscure wayno. Much further south than North Canterbury. There was a big clue in my last post. Here is a view from the summit that might help:

Definitely the Queenstown area looking at the remarkables (I did pick up on your earlier clue but still couldn't nail it down). My first instinct was on the Ben Lomond track but that didn't fit your description.

Your description is close enough for me WFBW, you obviously know the area. I was on Queenstown Hill aka Te Tapu-nui. We were staying in the middle of town, so basically I walked from beside Lake Wakatipu to the top and back. The little tarn was about 3/4 of the way up near the "basket of dreams" sculpture. I did contemplate doing the Ben Lomond track but left it for a hopefully future trip.

Oops missed this, sorry. Unfortunately my international hiking photos are limited to a handful of European daywalks and a whole bunch of NZ tramps. So... NZ again...

Shucks - I knew I should pencil in Angelus Hut for a future walk.
That is a magnificent photo.

Would have to try pretty hard to take a bad photo up there. Hinapouri it is. Taken from not far past the col that joins Cedric Ridge to the Travers Range, having climbed up Cedric from Sabine Hut that morning. Brilliant country.

I would not apologise for lots of NZ photos.
I always believed this game would attract mostly from there.
So this is NZ also..

That is it - just off the track up Conical Hill - to a spot with a good view down.

Feel free to go again - or anyone else.
For those who are following - this tarn is early in Harris Saddle on the Routeburn Track.
The mountains at back are the Darrans across the Hollywood Valley - the main peak being Mt Gifford.

Aargh, I thought it was the Darran Mountains, but was looking further south around Key Summit. However, that didn't match my photos and I gave up. :(

Looks like the jagged sub-peaks of Mt Kenya (geography and 3 peaks clues also support this)

Well the main peaks [Batian 17,058 feet & Nelion] are in the cloud. And the trekkers peak, Point Lenana [16,355 ft] is on the LHS.
But yes - this is Mt Kenya above Shiptons Camp

Yep its high on my priority list so have spent a little time drooling over photos of the area/mountain.......

Depleted access to photos so back to a few NZ staples - where are we enjoying a bite to eat (or what are we looking at)?
