Anyone seen the supposed thylacine videos by Murray McAllister? Thoughts?

First one looks like a fox, the second one, who knows, could be anything....

It says he is sponsored by Lemac  I reckon they have given him their worst 2nd hand handicam, for a high end supplier I would have thought Lemac could come through with a long lens and a tripod....

Live in hope though....

If you read thru his website and all the reported sightings, most of them are for Victoria, even the outskirts of Melbourne, even reports for Cairns and south of Perth. Considering there has never been valid sighting of thylacines on the mainland surely this would weaken their reputation and any valid claims?
I did see a show about people trying to find them in the highlands of Papua New Guinea though, because they have no dingos for competition and the tribe peoples talk of a mysterious creature that sounds similar to the Thylacine, though no scientific expeditions have ever found anything.
I find it very hard to believe that they still exist but live in hope. Imagine the *&%$#! storm though if they ever have a verified sighting. If one was found in the Tarkine you would need a visa to visit the area!

Har har har hardy har.

When I lived in the US I lived in a region where panthers had been declared extinct for over 100 years, and the nearest known population was over 100 miles away. Then they just happened to discover them within 60 miles of a city with the population of 240,000.

Never say never.

Drifting, yeh I know there are sometimes things out of place. I Once saw a Papuan Harrier near Bathurst NSW. It was flying low and the markings are very unique and unmistakable. Also came across some 8cm wide cat like tracks near Wallerawang a few years ago. People are pretty sceptical with good reason. A visit to U-Tube is enough. Trouble is that while eye witness is strong evidence in court, it doesn’t stand up in the public arena. People want to know how something could be there and of course any explanation can only be conjecture which is by nature very weak.

Having seen a few things, I have to have a well maybe attitude to other people claims I guess.

Ken

Ken- I'm in your boat. I spent 10 years working in a wildlife centre in the US with panthers, and several times found panther tracks on my property in NE Victoria, and also heard them screaming during mating (not a noise easy to mistake). The people down the valley had seen at least one panther many times, including having it trapped in their barn once, and sitting at their front door and peering in at them (a bit too close for me.) But no one asks the locals about this stuff in Victoria, and no one tells outsiders, because you are never taken seriously.

It's hard to accept these ideas from a scientific perspective but the romantic within wants to embrace the possibility with open arms. We'll probably never have proof against it (by virtue of the argument) and for is almost as unlikely.

Latest from ABC
Interesting!

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-09-06/t ... io/8877598

Footage of a purported Tasmanian tiger sighting has been released in Hobart.

Key points:

Three Tasmanian men believe an animal they filmed last November is a thylacine
Wildlife expert Nick Mooney says the animal is most likely a spotted quoll
But Mr Mooney concedes there is a 20 per cent chance the animal is a Tassie tiger
The vision was recorded last November and was shown at a press conference by a group called the Booth Richardson Tiger Team (BRTT), which has been trying to track a thylacine.

The team said they had 14 cameras in an area within 50 kilometres of Maydena, changing the sites every fortnight.

It claims the footage contains recordings of the animal barking and nosing their camera.

Adrian 'Richo' Richardson, who has been researching and trying to find a tiger for 26 years, is convinced of its veracity.

"I don't think it's a thylacine, I know it's a thylacine," Mr Richardson said.

Thylacines don't bark. They make a kind of yipping sound. Fairly high pitched. If it's barking, it's a dog.

IMO it is very hard to tell what animal is in the video. Surely footage of a Thylacine nosing their camera would have been better footage to release.

There are enough contemporary accounts from when they were relatively common.

And before you ask, yes I have heard some - near Lake Pedder (the real one) back in 1970 or thereabouts. Possibly also elsewhere, but that's the only occasion when there were other witnesses.

This heartens me greatly. It suggests at least a slim possibility of their continued existence (regardless of whether or not there is any truth in the latest sighting).

From the dodgy footage above, to me, it moves like a Quoll....

When i use to live at Marrawah in the NW of Tas, every now & then the local rumour mill would
throw up Thylacine sightings south east of Arthur River...but that was almost 30years ago now.

I still have a flickering hope that they're out there somewhere....

I'm going for a Quoll...

We all hope it's otherwise but at the end of the day whether it's Bigfoot/Nessie/Tassie Tiger or whatever, it's ALWAYS a grainy, indistinct, long range video that could be anything, but the reality is after 100 odd years there hasn't been a single slice of credible evidence of anything, anywhere. People who chase such things for years must start to lose faith or a grip on reality and simply "believe" any and all "evidence" to justify their course of action.

It just bothers me that this reminds me of how dumb us humans are sometimes, so when I hear of someone trying to save some obscure piece of mother nature I feel more sympathetic than I would have in my younger days.....

From Tasmanian tigers to Big Foot and the Loch Ness monster, we just love stories of sightings of mysterious creatures — whether we believe them or not.

News of recent footage claiming to show a Tasmanian tiger in the bush has spread far and wide, with people furiously debating what they think they can see in the film.

Can anyone explain why big media uses annoying and irrelevant music tracks that e.g. could have come from a "Wile E. Coyote" cartoon, over their videos?
In this case it is made worse since it obscures the voice track of the people doing investigations.
I've got to the point now I click off as soon as I hear one start up as I know my time is about to be wasted.

Because any intelligent journalist would know it's all a joke and farce, though good for generating clicks. It's entertainment value.

Because those short form videos, with music, get far more views than the actual 'story' on the 7PM news...they are made in that way because most people don't actually listen(you'll notice all spoken words are subtitled along with linking graphics). It's proven if they do choose to listen they stay engaged if there is music, the bouncier the better...

I have to make those things, and one of my colleagues made that....an editor, who makes the music choice, not a journalist. No-one worth their salt in the TV news business like the way news gathering and reporting is going....oh I could go on...
