[Geelong VIC] LW 3-M Thinsulate for DIY

74GSM type "U"
This is U-DS "double scrim" and it weighs 85GSM scrim weight included, it is 1550 [60"] wide
$5- per linear metre and postage extra
2 metres will fit in a 500g prepaid satchel
Subjectively the same warmth as the 60GSM stuff in a Patagonia Nanopuff but it doesn't pack down as well
It is a little light for winter jackets although using 2 layers in the torso and a single layer in the sleeves and hood will work i think the best use for it would be winter trousers.
A normal person should get a pair of pants from 2 metres an XL/XXL like me would need 2.5 to 3 metres but this would give scraps to double up on the knees.
Minimum cut will be 2 metres
Fabric has some storage soiling but it is perfectly usable
Pick-up from Norlane is available

Thanx Warin; I forgot to do that.
I'm chasing some denim blue Taslan to make myself a pair of winter hitchhiking pants to use some of this for myself, for next winter

My thoughts .. for winter hiking pants...

A separate outer shell - goretex or similar with full length water resistant zips on the outside of both legs. These would zip on over the to of whatever you have on as a waterproof layer, no need to remove muddy boots. Would do for summer as you can partially zip down to get more cooling - similar to pit zips. A storm lap over the zip to aid water resistance.

The inner would be just the thinsulate with an inner layer for ware. Not certain about a zipper on these similar to the outer layer, would be handy for quick changes. Don't know about a covering layer on these as they would always be intended to be under the goretex.

Having them separate gives you two options. And makes cleaning easier.

The scrim is not strong at all for clothing
Thus it does need to be totally enclosed in between fabric layers but those layers can be ultra light if you do not need robustness

We will have some small off-cuts available soon
Off-cut sizes will be good for a balaclava or mittens
$1-/ $2- plus postage costs in a 500g satchel or a large business envelope depending on how many scraps we wind up with
