Wayno, sad and disturbing day when it stops raining in the mountains......but hey climate change is natural and human gluttony has no effect on the planet. Well that is what Australia's fearless leaders stand by.

Over here we clear lots of land and farm cows and sheep in low rain fall drought prone areas, then we truck in convoys of feed so the cows and sheep are happy. It makes the humans feel like they are being positive and have control.
So that means in Australia we would just fly in water to the huts......I hope the Kiwis are smarter than that, you are proving that all over the place. In the mean time I'll keep planting trees in my little part of the world, and leave the meat and dairy out of the shopping cart.....

part of the problem is people turn the tap on to check if theres water and if there isnt, they dont close it again..... one shelter someone removed the lid to the water tank to get to the remaining water and left the lid off, and it ended up with a lot of dead insects in it and it went yellow.
its hit and miss, the rain comes but on the Te araroa trail the huts arent made for the no's of people going through them now and the water runs out quickly, you can have up to 15 people at a 4 bunk hut on a lot of days. eating dehy food doesnt help. its summer, take something to eat that doesnt need as much water.... then people eat fatty food for more calories and to save weight, it takes ten times the amount of water to digest fat as it does to digest carbs and drives your thirst and water requirements right up....
kiwis arent smart at all. we're running underground aquefirs dry all over the place and polluting them and the water ways from farming.
they are ramping up irigtation to maximise intensification like thers no tomorrow with the water, we still get droughts in the east, in the rainshadow of the main ranges.... its an experiment thats going to end in disaster.
