Input sought: Road Access Sticky?

Postby north-north-west » Sun 25 Feb, 2018 8:29 am

I was wondering whether it might not be helpful - and a lot neater - to have a permanent sticky in each state sub-forum for updating road access information to various tracks and reserves. These details are always changing, and it would be easier for everyone if all the info was available in one specific place.

Edit by moderator:

To get more input, this topic is a global sticky. This is a discussion thread, not the proposed sticky.

The main discussion points seem to be:
* Suggested that there be a sticky for each of the five regions.
* Mainly a link to the land authorities, Parks Victoria, NPWS, PWS, etc.
* A link to the Bureau of Meteorology.
* Limited posts - the links have enough information.
* Maybe make the stickies locked, mods can add information, save clutter.
* If so, have a link to a road closed thread where people can post.
* If appropriate, say when closures are. For example, in Victoria I think it's Queen's Birthday to the Thursday before Cup Day.
* Anything else?

Your views on the above are sought.

Thank you.

It would be really nice to have road information in one place. At present you need to check Parks, Forestry and Police, and then then there is often some information missing or not updated. This assumes the folks here would be better at keeping things up to date than the various people on the other sites.

Yes - a great idea. Perhaps the first post could contain links to the relevant state websites for current road conditions as a place to start.

I'd also add Vicroads to the list of links, as they have info on winter closures of Jamieson-Licola Rd, Bogong High Plains Rd, etc.
