Yes MM - apparently the largest crater in Kenya - the floor of the crater is bulk frozen lava flows.

Ah yes, quite right. When I read your post I immediately confused it with the river of same name that runs through Lk Manapouri (you'd think I would have twigged since I was standing looking at Waiau Pass the morning after I took the photo). Apologies for that.

You can thank Google Satellite with associated photos - I had been scanning around Devon to start with and something caught my eye about the beach scene.
