Camp cave near Folly Point Budawangs

Postby Huntsman247 » Mon 05 Nov, 2018 6:35 pm

I'm wondering about the camp cave in the image attached. How much shelter does it provide? How many people can it fit? And is water easily accessible nearby or do you need to walk further towards the campsite on Holland's creek?

Any info would be great.

Hi Huntsman247,
This cave is part of the Budawangs Wilderness Area so party limit 8.
It is big enough for 8 people to sleep in.
It would provide good shelter unless you had a lot of rain driven in from the east.
Water in creek below the cave.
We need to take good care of this area because it's special! :)

Ahh good to know. Thanks for the info. Don't worry I'm in the care about the environment camp. It is truly a special part of the world. I generally don't go bigger than 6 in areas like that.
Some friends were down and the only days they had to go hiking was forecasted rain... So I was hoping for a dry place for the night. Due to one in the group developing severe blisters in the wet we didn't quite make it there anyways. But hoping to do Hollands gorge soon so might stay there the night then.

Haven't been into Hollands Gorge yet, but I hear it's beautiful! :)

Been many years since I was last there, back when the track started at Newhaven gap carpark :-). I clearly remember sheltering overnight after a full day of walking in the rain. There were 5 of us camping there that night and plenty of room.
I recall it was some way down from Watsons Pass.

Reading my Hubbies shorthand notes from the two trips we did:

CC near E487959 (small and rough) under large boulder outcrop (~15m high) sleeps 2-3. Track goes immediately downhill and shirts East. Steep down to CC at E488957 -excellent size, small creek trickle down over steep walls to the north.

Another trip in the rain we left Newhaven gap at 11am, arrived folly Point 2.30pm and then down Watsons Pass to CC at 4pm. Shared the large cave with 3 other people ( 5 in total). Verydry after soaked through on the walk out.

Also found this old photo:
