Memory Maps for Vic?

Bushwalking gear and paraphernalia. Electronic gadget topics (inc. GPS, PLB, chargers) belong in the 'Techno Babble' sub-forum.

TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Memory Maps for Vic?

Postby Happy Pirate » Sun 20 Jan, 2019 3:37 pm

Anyone here using Memory Maps?
I just downloaded the demo but apparently their 25k topo maps for Vic have been discontinued. Pretty useless to me then.
Anyone else using this and have a work around?
At the moment I'm switching between the Australia Topo Maps Pro with the Vic Topo licence and Avenza to import my own maps. I was hoping to find a single Android app that could both stream maps and upload them.

If you have android Orux maps is what you want. https://www.oruxmaps.com/cs/en/

Free (with donate version also available. Free version has full functionality with no ads)

- Stream sat maps and topo
- offline use of any topo map and openstreet map you need. Maps are free, you just need to source. (easily findable online from gov and private websites)
- fully customisable UI
- tested and given the thumbs up by a number of Aussie walkers.

Try emailing them. They sorted me out when there were issues with Tas and NSW maps. I've got to email them about Vic as well, so let me know how you go.

Only hurdle is learning how to use it! The learning curve is more like a cliff.. but once mastered its easy.

Yeah, I'm seeing that now. The vector topo map is good but I can't see how to import my own PDFs and GeoTifs.

Actually I think I'll focus on Orux for now. I've already paid for the Vic Topo series through Aus Topo Maps so I'd like to not have to pay a second time. If you do hear from them though, let us know.
cheers

Orux maps will also read Garmin img format maps. So you can use my OSM maps http://bushwalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=28893.
