WOJ Transport

Postby frw » Sat 23 Mar, 2019 6:04 pm

My wife and I are walking from WOJ to Windy Ridge early May. Any suggestions on how to get to the start of the walk from Launceston. It seems transport options have become limited after the end of April.

I know it was possible to get a taxi there from Deloraine. And you can get to Deloraine from Launceston via a regular bus service. I have used a taxi to get to Higgs Track many times, and the taxi driver mentions that they also take passengers to Walls of J. But it would not be cheap. It may be easier to charter one of the regular transport services for bushwalkers at Launceston.

Future ref: Ring the manager of the Mole Creek Hotel - I hope that's still current. An evening bus from Deloraine will get you that far.

You might get a different response in person but I called and spoke to the manager a few weeks ago and got told they don’t do that anymore.

Thx bax, Hermione's last recom. was Jan '16 and things may have changed since then. But she does refer to the situation as 'ad hoc' - it depends on circumstances.

I received a generous offer from the boss at Gowrie Pk Village in '16, to drive me up to Sheffield return at no cost.

I mention these other options because prices can be steep for visitors. Gowrie's on the bus route to Cradle and ideal for visiting Roland. Asking them what a lift to WoJ might cost could result in a saving. He might even pick you up from Mole Ck but Olivers Rd would be better from Gowrie.
