Helinox fl120 walking poles

A place to chat about gear and the philosphy of ultralight. Ultralight bushwalking or backpacking focuses on carrying the lightest and simplest kit. There is still a good focus on safety and skill.
Forum rules
Ultralight Bushwalking/backpacking is about more than just gear lists. Ultralight walkers carefully consider gear based on the environment they are entering, the weather forecast, their own skill, other people in the group. Gear and systems are tested and tweaked.
If you are new to this area then welcome - Please remember that although the same ultralight philosophy can be used in all environments that the specific gear and skill required will vary greatly. It is very dangerous to assume that you can just copy someone else's gear list, but you are encouraged to ask questions, learn and start reducing the pack weight and enjoying the freedom that comes.

Helinox fl120 walking poles

Postby Petew » Wed 15 May, 2019 11:02 am

Hi,

Anyone own/use a pair of these? Right size for me.

I'm attracted to the weight. Will mainly be used to help out with difficult track sections and to support a shelter. I don't normally walk with poles. Pack weight at its absolute heaviest is 14 kg.

Are they a bit flimsy?

Cheers,

Pete

Im confident any Helinox product will be strong for purpose.

I have lbb poles, still going strong after a few years.
Groundchair busted, many sits though so didn't chase a warranty.
Also have the newer light/small umbrella, a recent purchase .

Hi Neo,

Thanks for that.

I have a chair zero and one of their umbrellas, awesome gear.

I think I'll just grab a pair.

Hi Pete, sorry I just saw this. I have the FL120 poles and love them. They haven’t missed a beat and I found the adjustable length useful when switching between generally flat/ uphill (propel), and downhill (brake). Helinox have a guide on how to use poles that I found useful; I’m yet to see anyone else on a trail use them the same way.

Hi shehall,

I ended up with the heavier FL 135, nicely made, just wanted something a bit burlier.

Hi Petew,
What has been your experience with the FL 135's ? Trying to work out if they are worth the extra $$ over the Fuzan Campact 3's ?? I'm about 6ft too

They are pretty well made and solid. Lighter than a lot of carbon poles. I don't normally use trekking poles but bought them for a mid winter OT walk last year. Much less flexible than the FL 120 and usable with a zpacks duplex which we had along. They were handy for peak bagging in the snow. Another plus is if you break something helinox is able to replace parts.
