Iron Prince Reef near Cape Howe.
Here banskia serrata is common and the winds blow strongly from 2 directions eroding rocks from each side as the dunes move easterly over the centuries and millennia.
Your pic now, potato.

Thanks robl, I'll post something soon. What is the unusual erosion you noted on the boulder?

The boulders were placed on the rock shelf behind the dunes when the sea level here was relatively higher in the mid-holocene and were originally more rounded. In the late holocene these rocks were stranded from the sea and acted upon by wind and sand. The erosion resulted in facets being formed at roughly right angles. More usually wind erosion acts from many directions without forming facets. At this time in this area we have prevailing westerlies interspersed with east coast lows. (causing the facets) This would likely to have been the case through the Meghalayan age.
Holocene geomorphology is a hobby for me. I am just a layperson, so please excuse if I am wrong.
Fair way south of the Colopotato wrote:There is a lot of sandstone out there. Looks like somewhere along the Colo but do you have any clues?
