However, I do walk solo occasionally, and get sick of lugging around the 1.5 kg stove and kit everywhere I go. So last week I bought the base (ie, windshield/base piece) for the mini Trangia for $11, and this week I bought a billy that it just fits into nicely, and which will just sit on top of it. It is a cheap $6 billy that is just big enough for one. (Note, there are 3 sizes of Trangia, the large and small sizes are almost identical in design apart from their size; the mini has a completely different design for the stand and has no windshield to speak of).
Total conversion price: $17... not bad, I reckon! Now I can choose to take the large or the tiny cooking kit depending on if I'm catering for only one or for two to four. The one burner will fit nicely into both kits.
When I grab the burner from my large Trangia, and the prondonicles (old friend's name for the pot grips), the total weight of my new stove, including pot, lid, grips and all, now comes to 250g. That one sixth of the weight I started with! And a fair bit smaller in volume too.
