Larapinta trail Jul/Aug 2019, looking for a trekking partner

Postby Ewa » Sun 27 Jan, 2019 4:59 pm

Hi all,
Im planning to hike the Larapinta trail sometime this winter, no specific plans yet as to when exactly. I recon I'd like to take about two weeks for the hike. I would love to have a trekking partner for this trek.
I live in Sydney - if you are interested and also live in Sydney we could maybe meet up and plan together.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks,
Ewa

I’m leaving Alice for Redbank Gorge on 2 June. Probably a bit early for you.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your reply...it is indeed a bit too early, I was thinking July / August. Primarily due to work obligations but also June will still be rather hot on the trail?
Thanks,
Ewa

The seasons come about a month earlier in the desert than they do on the coast. Anytime May to September is good for the Larapinta.

I'll be getting a lift out to Redbank Gorge on the 31st of May, dropping food at Ormiston Gorge, Ellery Creek and Standley Chasm on the way out. Probably have 2 or 3 spare seats in the car (friends are taking me out, they will be out there doing a 4wd trip at the same time) which I would be happy to see used if anyone would like them. Just chip in for fuel.

Depending on how long the drive out/food drops take I plan on doing Mt Sonder that afternoon. I was planning 12-14 days for the hike and flying out (back to Brisbane) the morning after I get back to Alice.

Sounds like I’ll be a couple of days behind you - might catch you towards the end.

If you're a fast hiker you might catch me by Standley and we can have a beer together :)

Unfortunately for you guys, alcohol is prohibited at Standley Chasm.

Cool, thanks for the heads up. No loss, I'm sure a cold softdrink will be just as refreshing :)

Probably a good thing as one drink and I’ll be fast asleep!
