Access to 6 foot track

Postby Robyn1 » Sat 10 Jun, 2023 8:41 am

Myself and 2 friends would like to do 6 ft track this July. A few questions
1 Can you walk to the start of the track from the nearest train station ( Katoomba?)
2 Is the track open all the way to the end?
3 Without a car is there any transport from the end back to Katoomba?

Thanks

Yes. You can also catch a bus most of the way

There was a bus ... arr google

Not running... they maybe willing to run a service, of try uber/taxi...

National Parks says:
Closed areas: Six Foot track - Bowtells Bridge closure

Bowtells swing bridge on Six Foot track is closed to protect public safety. An upgrade is being planned, and the bridge is expected to reopen at the end of 2023. Signs and barriers are in place to prevent access onto the bridge.

Before the bridge people forded the river south of the bridge. Be rather cold this time of year.

Taxi back is going to cost huge. If you are travelling that far why not consider walking it back and stay a night at Jenolan Caves. If the bunk house is still running for accommodation the price would be reasonable and there is a shared kitchen and bathroom. It is a two day walk if you are fit but most do it in two and a half. You might be able to cross under Bowtells bridge if you can jump but otherwise just continue down the original track past the bridge and cross at the reserve camping area. The only problem would be if the river is running hard after rain.

July is a nice time to do this walk but you would need to reach Allum creek first night to get it done in two days. Most people will camp at the Coxs River reserved and then Black Range.
