The hut is located on the edge of buttongrass plains at the foot of Mt Oakleigh. It is one of the larger huts on the track and has a wonderful verandah. This hut was built in 2001, it has 6 separate bedrooms rooms and a large common area (that is divided into two during quieter months).

There are bench seats and tables for cooking and eating. The verandah has pegs to hang wet gear. There is 1 tent platform, and tent sites on the grass near the platform. There are several swimming spots along Douglas Creek, and there is a nice deep water hole near the old Pelion Hut.

The hut can be accessed via the Arm River Track, so you may meet other people not walking the Overland Track here. The hut is also a fairly popular rest day location giving people more time to explore Mt Oakleigh and some of the other unique parts of the beautiful area.
