Nerd help needed W10 music

Postby Moondog55 » Sat 22 Aug, 2020 5:20 pm

Just updated my computer and did a file restore from the back-up drive and I now have thousands of duplicated music files. Ditto with all my pictures. Lost all my bookmarks too ALL of them Drat!
Running W10Pro, what is a recommended program for doing a duplicates removal?
Usually happy enough with the included player but quite willing to pay for a better jukebox if anybody wants to recommend one. I used to use the full version of music match that came with an included volume matching and fie duplication but the new version doesn't seen to include those functions

Put all your saved music in one folder say C/ music/zzz. copy the saved files from say C/backup/aaa into the same folder
Windows will ask if you want to copy transfer or replace
click replace.

Ctrl A to select all files
Crtl C to copy
or
Ctrl X to move
Ctrl V to paste

Virtual DJ is the one for music, everyone at the Radio Station uses it, free download around 38 megs
I find version 7 more reliable than version 8.

It is all in one large folder, some albums have 3 copies of each track. Using that just replaced all the duplicates and it's all the duplicates I need to replace

Hold down CTRL left mouse click on duplicate file, right mouse click select delete.
You would be surprised how much that can be deleted in two hours.

Yep a few percent of the quarter terabyte / 233 Gb of music files I guess. I'll do that if I have to tho.

There are plenty of duplicate file removal apps (and free, too) - eg Duplicate Cleaner

Do a search for 'windows duplicate file removal'

Thanx While I did do that I was hoping for some feedback on which program to actually download.
I couldn't sleep last nite so I did spent some time mouse clicking, in 2 hours I actually got though all the "A"s just the rest of the alphabet to do

Can't you transfer the files you want to keep to another folder or a USB drive, delete the entire library and transfer the wanted stuff back?
A proper duplicate remover would be faster, but.

The operating system hasn't duplicated whole albums, it is multiple copies of each track with each title. Something I did wrong with the file restore I think as I also have multiple copies of all our photographs
