A Question for Necklace makers.

Postby Lamont » Wed 23 Mar, 2022 9:40 am

Don't know where else to put this....
so are there any necklace/jewellery/beaded necklace makers on here that could recommend me some of the UL thin, but tough, usually 1mm or a wee bit less, stuff you thread the beads on please.
I have a piece of Pounamu (Greenstone) on a necklace from Aotearoa that is easily under 1mm, single (strand)/ unbraided, and worn for 2 years and still going strong.
That's the sort of thing I'm after. About 10m or so max. If you had an ebay link that would be even better from an Oz supplier :D :D

Braided fishing line perhaps? I did have some around here somewhere but as I don't fish I have misplaced it. Sold at K-Mart tho, very thin and super strong
Probably BCF too.

I recently replaced the string on my pounamu by ordering a replacement from one of the many Kiwi pounamu jewellers I found on Google. There were a few choices of material

If anybody else wants any of this I have a couple of hundred metres left on the cone that may never now get used. It needs to be waxed for hand sewing and needs #24 needles.
We were using it for kite strings at one point.
No idea what the strength actually is but it is stronger than M-20 bonded nylon
