Actually TdF can be quite mesmerising to watch. I'm more MTB than road cyclist but the scenery is often stunning, especially once they get up into the mountains.

I'm still not quite up with who's who except for the couple of very well known big names.
Only beginning to understand how the peleton works. Stage 8, Cadel is/was? number 2.
I think "mad" describes some of the spectators

The views are great and the 100km/ph downhill runs shows who wants to win and who wants to live
Cobblestones on racing tyres must be one of the more insane aspects of the sport.

Loved the World Cup too mate. Up at the Country Club Casino this morning to watch the final; half time at 5:15am for breakfast we welcomed spring rolls, party pies, sausage rolls and chicken nuggets.......with a beer to wash it all down. Needless to say I haven't had to eat anything else yet today; I think my body is still in shock dealing with what I fed it at a time when it is usually still sleeping

Haha nice Phil! Sounds like a pretty good breakfast, Shame about the final. It was a bit of an anticlimax I thought. Though spain deserved to win.

Was happy that Spain won....sitting next to my mate in his 'Holland' t-shirt!!
As you said, it wasn't the most enjoyable match to watch though; I'm disappointed that I didn't get up to watch the Germany vs Uruguay match on Sunday morning; 3-2, caught the replay; certainly more 'entertaining' viewing although the stakes obviously weren't as high.

Yes I caught that game. Forlan was amazing! Was a bit sad for him his last second effort smashed into the crossbar. It was a great game!
It was a good tournament for Paul the Octopus! 100% correct with his predictions!!

with the world cup over, and the TdF in full swing, thats gunna be about 7 weeks of no sleep for me...

I too am looking forward to more sleep now the world diving (or cheating) championships are over.
As for the TDF I have one of those fancy hard disk recorder things and as I am still on sick leave I am watching the race in full in the mornings, much better than the highlights.

Well, bit of a fizzer this year all of a sudden. It really is a game of cat/s and mouse, I would have thought it surely must be possible to make up 8/9 minutes over 00's of kilometers the first times i watched it.

Nuts that's what I was hoping after Cadel's disaster the other day. But I know from distance running how hard it is to gain seconds let alone many minutes. We've also got Michael Rogers 3 places ahead of him in the latest standings that I read. You never know what might happen though (I'm reminded of Steven Bradbury at the winter olympics some years ago). Still watching on and off for the scenery, and the riding, in the meantime

I love that "he's done a Bradbury" has become a common term since that incident.
