Competition Prizes, Security, Pet Leeches, etc

(This topic has been split off from the December Competition topic.)

(Teaser: The prize for the January competition arrived yesterday and is also sitting on my desk now.)

Anyone know the location of Nik's desk and the security arrangements there?

You'd have to be able to get past the huge and vicious german shepherd that roams the property unrestrained. He might savagely cover your face in bacteria-infested saliva, or surreptitiously arrange to have noxious malodourous dog poo spread over the soles of your shoes.

Is that all? So long as I don't have to put up with the onslaught I had at Mary Creek Plains!

My 4yo daughter has been asking if we can bring a leech home from her next bushwalk to keep as a pet. Yes, I'm serious - that's what she wants. So you never know what you'd have to face!

Haha. Did you tell her she would have to be responsible for feeding it every day.......
Nothing to see here.

One I can handle. 10 I can handle. 100? If I had to get through 100 to get the booty I'd give it a shot (armed with DEET). But not Mary Creek Plains... Anything but Mary Creek Plains!!!!!!
It's taken years of therapy to be able to type Mary Creek Plains!!!!! They tell me that with practice I might one day be able to say it again...

I did explain the problems with keeping leech as a pet - keeping them in a moist cool place, feeding them with blood, etc. A couple of days later she was talking about next door's cat visiting our yard, and I mentioned in an off-hand sort of way that maybe we should get a pet cat instead of a pet leech one day.

Then inspiration struck! If we got a pet cat, that would resolve the problem of how to feed the pet leech! She wasn't sure if she liked that idea, and it was promptly vetoed by the lady of the house, but I thought it was a great idea.

How fast do leeches reproduce? Once we get that nice symbiotic cat/leech pet menagerie going, we might be able to rival Mary Creek Plains eventually. I might have to arrange for a misty sprinkler system for the summer though.

Leeches are hermaphrodites so getting one could be dangerous!

But . . . they can't change quickly enough to impregnate themselves, can they?

Now that's something new for nightmare time . . .

She has temporarily forgotten about the pet leech idea now, as she has her very own pet Lady Bug named, "Orangie". Well, at least it's around somewhere. It was living in the jar on the shelf for a few days, and she would take it out and hold it and show it to any visitors, but it seems to have disapproved of it's quarters, and is no longer confined to the jar, and who knows where in the house it now resides.
