Thanks, I need it! The mind is boggling with the weight I think I will be carrying, lucky the walk is short and flattish.

Ready to go to a new home with small people

Hey Muddy,

I would be very happy to re-home the down jacket - for a 10 yo girl who doesn't have much in the way of warm stuff. She'd love it.

Done! Will she use the merino long sleeve top too? It is a 1/4 zip.
Did you want a purple soft shell jacket by any chance for you seeing as I will be posting to you? It is a bit heavy to carry walking and doesn't see much wear casually from me, would probably get more of a run in Tasmania ;-)

Done! We'll need to come to some arrangement, or I need to find a wabba PIF to put up! Chat by pm.
Thanks! :D

Crollsurf, the Chapman book could be exactly the motivation I need to get me visiting Tasmania again after a long absence.

Xtreme Gourmet please. Only available in one Australian library at the moment? So if I could have this to read .. adapt some ideas and then I'll pass it on too.

Both the others are available in libraries so should not be too much trouble to obtain an issue to read if you miss out here.

Send it to me please Warin when you have finished with Extreme Gourmet.
Never met a cook book I didn't like to read at least once.

I apologise, Crollsurf, but I've just read the OLT website and become totally unmotivated. The walk is now so regulated (and expensive) compared to when I did it, that I know I wouldn't enjoy it at all, despite its beauty. I was able to do it twice, once going north and once going south. No such choice of direction now, and that's just the start of the constraints and dissuasions. I'm sure someone else can use the book instead.

Why not do it in winter?
I plan to do it in the white season for the reasons you state

The OLT restrictions for peak season have been in place for some years, as have the fees.

The winter restrictions are for Covid ... and only for 2020 at this stage.

Considering transportation costs to get to the beginning and return of the OLT the $200 fee is not a large amount.

But .. your choice.

Hi crollsurf, I'm interested in 'Pigeonhouse and Beyond'. It may be a little while before I can return to the Budawangs but I'd enjoy the read anyway - and thanks for the offer, I'll pass it on when I'm done with it.

When I first posted the books, I thought "Pigeonhouse and Beyond" would get snapped up immediately but took a few days!
The Overland Track is still available. I didn't begrudge the park fees, it's a manicured track, has well maintained huts and a lot of support staff involved to make it as safe as possible, as it gets a lot of inexperienced walkers. Plus Fly in, fly out, accom and sightseeing, the fees were just one component of the overall cost for me. I really enjoyed the walk, I wouldn't do it again in season but it was a very different experience to what I'm used to. Dont get me wrong, I rate it as one of my best best walks.

PS I'll try and get everything posted out this week, otherwise I'll be away next week so might take a couple of weeks

Took the family out for dinner on Saturday and the boys gave me a right roasting. LOL

Good to know at least someone thinks I'm awesome.

BTW sent out the Books and Camera today and can't find the receipt so the post it forward is on me.

Who said AusPost was snowed under - posted on Monday and arrived today. Thanks again, crollsurf.

It's a lot more than just walking notes for the Budawangs - fold-out maps, indigenous and natural histories, comprehensive flora and fauna lists and more.

A photo I took from the same spot as the book's cover (see above) shows considerable difference in vegetation growing out of the rock and it will be interesting to compare book references from the 1970s & before to present day.

It is amazing how things change. On my last (pre-fire) trip past Corang Peak it was head high scrub. When I first went there in the late 1960's it was almost bare, maximum veg height of 5cm - sorry, can't find the photos.

Here's a pair of mens size 34 zip-off Wild Country pants which I want to give away. Never worn, they are too long for me but I bought them thinking I could shorten them and now I can't be bothered. I reckon they would fit someone about 180 cm tall with a 34"waist, they are 79cm inside leg and 105cm overall. Made of 100% nylon supplex, charcoal grey colour, zip off legs, zip in cuff to go over boots. Free to a good home.
