TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Mountain Hardwear hoop series tents?

Sun 11 Mar, 2018 11:12 am

These were dropped when Columbia swallowed MH but I was always interested in them as an alternative winter shelter. They hardly ever come up for sale S/H and I am wondering if anybody here has any experience with them and could offer a critique?
A mate in the USA has tentatively and semi jokingly offered me his in exchange for 240 Dark chocolate Cherry Ripes and the same in TimTams but i'm not sure I can afford the cost

Shame, I've always thought is was a great design. I would have really liked to seem them in stores in Australia.

I never ever got to see one

I would still love to have one, it wouldn't need to be round, it could be pentagonal if that was easier. I've often wondered as to if one could be made with a square frame that then used a second walking pole horizontally to make a hexagon.

I had forgotten that one ..

First thing I would do would be to add at least 6 guylines around that ring. (just like in the circus tents versions)
Still I doubt that it could take a foot of wet snow.

Me too, at each intersection of that heavy silver reinforcement and the ring, adding an internal pole at each of these points perhaps as with the Hilleberg yurt

I have a MH Sprite 1 + footprint. I cannot offer a critique however as I have never used it. Only erected once lol!
