TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Do those of you familair with the Hilleberg tents think that a Nallo inner-only pitched tent would be ok for 3 seasons on the Overland Track?

hi we own a nallo3 and live in tassie. i would say no to your question. the inner only would not suffice in a tassie rainstorm (bear in mind that it can snow at anytime on the cradle mountian trail) overall the weight is not an issue for a good dry nights sleep.

Yeah- I guess you'd get a fair bit of leakage around the zips.

Actually, I don't think the inner material is even waterproof. It certainly wouldn't cope with more than a short light drizzle. It's only meant to be used on it's own in fine conditions - ie. no rain. You could take it if you were happy to sleep in the huts if there was any chance of rain. But I'm not sure there are any nights on the OT where where there is zero chance of rain, so I guess that's not saying much.

If you wanted to save weight you could take just the outer and combine it with either a bivy or a groundsheet and bug net, but you wouldn't save much weight that way.

Oh, I just found on-line that Hilleberg describe the inner material as "highly breathable and water repellent" - doesn't sound like "waterproof" to me - it's likely to be a lightly-DWR coated ripstop nylon.

Cheers,
Alliecat
