TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Hi

Anyone know where we can purchase a black diamond bombshelter from in Australia?

Can’t find any store that show it as an item then sell

Cheers

It doesn't look like they are listing it on the BD Australia website, so it might not be being imported yet. I'd email BD and see if there is any plan on importing those, it doesn't look like they import many tents. Another company to contact would be Sea to Summit's distribution people (www.seatosummitdistribution.com.au) as they seem to be the brand manager in Australia for BD, they may have an idea as to if there is any plan to bring any in. Otherwise, you might have to choose something else, or grey-market it.

Thanks for the reply,

Saw one over the weekend, he paid in store for it but at the time we never thought to ask which store as we assumed it would be easy to find

I might contact sea to summit

Cheers

You may have to buy O/S and have it drop shipped.
When you are paying $1800- for a tent another $150- for shipping isn't such a large percentage of the prime cost. Even adding in the 10%GST seems reasonable if it's what you want and need and can't buy it here.
Just expect it to sit in Customs for a month while they get around to processing it.

I've got a BD Bibler Eldorado unused if you like. Just add some tarp and ice walls if you need more space.

Phs,
have you had a look at the Nemo Chogori tent ?
The 3 has 44 sq ft vs the 50 of the Bombshelter.
One entry point but double wall and internal ice (from condensation) peels off very easily from the silnylon fabric (not that I used the Nemo but on other silnylon it does...)

Great price if in good condition.
I'd be tempted if I was still snow camping into the future

Wow. Almost 5kg….surely you could find another tent that is similarly weatherproof and save some weight?

5kg divided by 4 is only a bit over a kilo per person so not that bad

You might want to check Y/Tube as regards the BD Bombshelter. Not good.

I just looked for U-Tube videos on it and could find only one, and that looked like a couple of people who didn't appear to know what they were doing.
Bibler tents are specialised bits of kit and have a good reputation in the mountaineering community but I've never used one

I'd say it's a 3 adult tent, but maybe mountaineers need to be close to survive..
We never did anything extreme, but I think the term bombshelter was chosen for a reason.

Haven’t seen you tube reviews

Only know a very experienced hiker who swears by it, been caught out in Tassi a fair few times having to spend numerous days in it and won’t use anything els, his reason for liking it so much is, single skin, 4 season, decent vestibule

Thanks Eagle Hawks PM sent
