Comments invited from anyone who may own/have used the Oringi Grampain jacket or the Wilderness Wear Strider jacket. I like the length of the Oringi, not sure how long the Strider is.
Interested in their suitability (or otherwise) for walking in conditions including Tasmania, New Zealand and warmer parts of Europe (non-snow).

I have the Grampian Jacket. I am very happy with. Used it in snow and some really wild weather in the Western Arthurs. I am not sure if it is as breathable as Goretex. It is a tough jacket, very hard to rip. I have got some pinprick hole but have used their repair kit which is really easy to use.
I like coming back from a walk and just throwing it in the washing machine, drying it and its ready for the next walk.

Am I right to assume that the Grampian is not lined, but is just a "shell" made of their fabric (of which I have a sample, and it looks pretty good)?

that's correct it is just a shell.
With the extra length the inside bottom part of the jacket gets wet inside alot when pushing through wet bush.
The jacket looks alot different to other jackets when it gets wet. Looks shiny. Dries reasonably quickly.
Sizing is a bit off, I have an extra large and I am definitely not an XL.
I also have the overpants, they are good if a bit heavy, if it is summer and not an extended walk I will not take any pants. With the length of the jacket and gaiters hardly need them unless its really bad. I do have ducks disease.

I've just got a small Wilderness Wear jacket which I think is the Strider. It's the nicest bushwalking jacket I've ever had but that only includes japaras and an old goretex jacket. The WW jacket comes to just above my knees but I'm not very tall, it feels really nice, it's light, and it packs down well. I haven't used it for extended wet walking but, I can't see there being a problem.
