And becauseI can't go skiing this season either
I am always looking through eBay.
There is a serious winter tent for sale at the moment with some serious issues tho.
If I had the money I would bid as I think it could possible be salvaged

I do know that it is not worth the asking buy it now price because it is on clearance at REI for $USD940-

https://www.rei.com/rei-garage/product/ ... mking-tent
I do think it is worth $500- tho as a project base because I think that is going to be the value of the alloy poles

I'd be very surprised if it even gets a bid at $500.......the BIN price of $1200 is absurd for a tent that's essentially cactus......the seller needs to be told "he's dreamin'!" Yep.....it might be a good fixer-upper for someone with the skills to re-do the fly but at the best it's a risky undertaking and most wouldn't throw $500 (let-alone $1200) at something that may or may not be usable once the rejuvenation is complete.

It'll be interesting to watch it go thru Ebay.......but I don't think it'll attract any interest at all.....but at least the seller was up-front about the fly issue I guess. Cheers

I actually contaced the seller to let him/her know it was on clearance.
I was basing my estimate of its worth as so many 9mm pole segments at $4- each half new cost here, if there aren't that many segments then my estimate is way off

Yeah, "dreaming"....

I still have a Kathmandu Mountain Dome - about 9 lbs, 4 pole geodesic dome with a single pole to one of the 2 vestibules. Fly coating is wearing out on it too, but it is a really bomb proof tent. Would still use it happily, except that I'm happier to fang it with the H'berg Nallo GTs, ( or,this year with the Terra Nova Laser Competition, if I'm by myself) to save weight.

I suppose it comes down to your use. A weekend I can handle with a lighter tent; a week or more, I'd rather carry the extra weight. And for 3, the K Mtn Dime wins....providing we all want to sleep in one tent together!

Well the seller has a bid, so somebody thinks it is worth at least $500-

He says 'the fly is degrading'. That tells me several things:
The fly is made of the older PU-coated fabric, which hydrolyses and goes sticky
The fly cannot be rescued. Too many have tried.

$100 for the poles - maybe.
Cheers

Obviously there are people out there willing to take the risk on reproofing the fly.
I have reproofed many flys; most of them reasonably successfully, the main downside is the added weight of the silicon needed to make sure the fly is waterproof
