Hi,

Ive got a bit of mould on my One Planet Goondie 30D fly. Ive been told that Tec Was is the best solution and to put it in the front loader. Is this correct? I assume cold wash and no spin. Any tips on doing this or should I hand wash it?

Top loader, some have an "extra gentle" setting.

Use a little tiny bit of Lux soap flake or similar, warm water, rinse [ hose running in a bucket ] multiple times and set it up to dry, I've done it multiple times, works a treat.

Or just put in the sun to kill mould, put up with the discolouration?

Clove oil is a trick, bleach doesn't kill mould but it does eat vinegar until it explodes and dies (according to TV).

all of those solutions should work. I'd recommend dissolving the lux in hot water first, then add that to cold water, Lux will leave some residue. I've taken to using earth works powder as it cleans better and generates less residue. Some sun will help as well.

What color is the mold? if it is black spots, after treating you may want to re-coat those sections with a waterproofer.

My front loader has a 'hand wash' setting ... uses 70 litres of water - 3 rinse cycles and takes 3.5 hours. Never used it, in fact I have never noticed it before. But I might for sleeping bags etc in the future.

How much mould is there? Why not just hand wash and a little brushing with a toothbrush with whatever solution you care to use? Throwing mouldy stuff in a washing machine is asking for contamination to all the other washings at home unless you bleach the machine.

Personally I would gently hand wash; unless of course the aim is to remove all of the waterproofing, in which case the agitation of any washing machine is the best way.
