TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Zipper of shorts won't stay up.

I have a favourite pair of shorts with multiple pockets that I can easily get to with a full pack on. I would like to keep them, but the fly zipper won't stay up.
Two tailors wanted $20 and $25 respectively to replace it.
Any other ideas, please?

Old worn zipper under a little belly fat stretch?

How about a safety pin as an immediate measure? Otherwise if it’s worth enough to you then $20 is fair for the time it takes to replace and new zipper. Or DIY at home.
Just move it!

As long as the new zip works and they can guarantee it stays up and you're keen to keep the old ones-go for a new zip. It's a fair bit of stuffing around not only putting a new one in but taking the old one out.
Probably being charged for about an hours non-sweatshop labour, and a new zip. Seems very fair.
Or have a go yourself. Plenty of vids on the Tube.

I'd just leave them as they are.
If anyone points it out, just say,

Would be nice to get some feedback on what worked or not. It might just help some to give better advice the next time .

A dead budgie doesn't fly even if the gate is left open.
