TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Exped Sleeping Bag repairs

Postby Cookie » Tue 15 Mar, 2022 6:01 pm

I have an Exped Swan 800 Sleeping Bag with a large hole in the foot box area. Bunched up/cable tied area in pic.

Is there anywhere I can get it repaired and/or shortened as it is too long anyway.

Southern suburbs of Sydney or Wollongong area if possible or any suggestions appreciated

Thank you

You could try Venus Repair Workshop of 36/104 Bathurst Street Sydney, phone 02 9267 0706. They repair all sorts of outdoor gear including sleeping bags and do quite good work. But just wondering - if you want it shortened and if the damage is in the "too long" section of the bag it may not be too difficult to repair it yourself if you have access to a sewing machine?

The easy way to shorten is to cut the footbox out completely and sew on a tube/hem to insert a drawcord and simply use the cord to close up the end.
Going back aways a lot of sleeping bags were made like this and a few still are

I see someone mentioned Venus in Sydney, I took my WM sleeping bag which just needed some pulled stitching repaired and the woman declined . Don't think they are too interested in doing bag repairs IMO.

Postage to Remote and return wouldn't be much, particularly in the context of something as valuable as a good bag.

Compress it, wrap it protectively and put in an Auspost satchel.

I've used Remote Repairs (Melbourne) a couple of times (cubenfibre tent, $down$ sleeping bag repairs x2, goretex pants) and they were just fantastic - repairs excellent.
