After procrastinating for a while I finally purchased one of those Kathmandu Fire Maple 48g Ti stoves, I did not pay the full rip-off price of $120 but paid a more respectable $60 for it.

My stove weighs in at 47.7g, lighter than claimed, (very rare) and it appears to be well made, I took it walking with me a couple of weekends ago, I did not even fire the stove up though run it through my normal tests. When I started using the stove I was heating up some rice and a pre-cooked takeaway curry and I had problems getting the stove to simmer, the stove worked fine at the higher flame rate but when I turned it down the flame was looked like it was not under going full combustion, the flame also had a strange smell about it.

On returning home I then tested the stove on the bench and all seemed normal, the stove simmered quite well, I am not sure what is going on in the field but I am wondering if any one else who uses the Kathmandu Fire Maple 48g Ti stove has experienced the same problem.

I had not seen that before at Kathmandu , or maybe the $120 price prevented me realising what it was.
I am mildly interested in the remote canister version , but that is not listed on line as yet.
(About 100g but no pre-eat tube .)
from memory there were some nice comments about the Fire Maple branded one and all I do is boil , so half power is my setting...

We are expecting temps in the low to minus tomorrow so I will have a play with my FMS-116T and check it's performance at simmer.

Hi Franco,

I also have my eye on Fire Maple remote canister stove, I hope that Kathmanu do not get the sales rights as it would then be a $300 stove , I was hoping to make the 48g stove into a remote stove.

Thanks, I will be interested how your stove goes, even in the middle of the day at around 17-19C I was still not able to simmer.

Why not try one of these http://cgi.ebay.com/Interchangeable-Fra ... 2821wt_902 I have used one for a couple of years now and whilst it may be a wee bit heavy (coupled with the FMS116t around 192g) it does work a treat,
It is now relegated to the cupboard since I aquired the FMS-100T which is my stove of choice now.

I am aware of those stove bases, I am hoping to make a much lighter one with a pre-heat tube.

Did not get Temp as low as expected however I did simmer in 10C with a breeze on a almost empty 230g cannister,perhaps yours is faulty ??

My canister was full, I will do some more investigating but for now I will go back to my trusty Kovea Ti.
