The sales blurb on the Mushtato site claims around 9 hours recharge time at 5V/2A.(Use a wall charger such as a 2Amp iPad or 2A Samsung phone charger)
Probably at least double that at ordinary USB current 5V/0.5-1A.

keithy wrote:Regarding the power button, I believe the Xiaomi uses this Texas Instruments TPS2513 USB Dedicated Charging Port Controller (http://www.ti.com/product/tps2513#diagrams) which controls the auto detects the USB voltage and current required by the device plugged in. So it should start charging automatically when a smart device is plugged in.

The blurb says "Reset Protect (button). Press the power button to active reset function."
Don't ask me what that means.

So all that is included is the power bank? I'm assuming my iPhone 5s charger cable is suitable to use?

If it's a USB cable it should be good.
My old USB to Nokia worked.
USB to micro USB 3SIXT camera no probs.

Have one of these Cygnett battery pack from a while back and better price. Although rated at 11000mAh, it looked awfully similar to this Xiaomi.

It's $40.00 dearer though.
Given that they have to contain a bunch of high capacity Litium batteries there is probably not much they can
do to compact the shape. if they weren't long and flat they'd be somewhat of a brick.

Xiaomi 16000mAh Portable Mi Power Bank Review

Yes, the list price on JB makes the Xiaomi a real bargain. Lucky mine had a major discount. With Ninjapuppet's quick test, I'm wondering if they have the same content?

Yes the iPhone cable will work from the Xiaomi to your phone for charging the phone.
But, to recharge the Xiaomi you will need a USB to Micro USB cable. Then you can use your Apple wall charger with the USB>Micro USB cable to charge up the Xiaomi.

Disappointed.
Received my new Xiaomi 16000 yesterday.
It charges my Samsung S4 phone and a Garmin 810 bike GPS.
Won't charge my iPad Mini (2) or my Lumix LF1 camera.
Sent an email to Mushtato, awaiting a response.

Thanks Dan.
What type of cable are you using for the iPads?
I tried to charge my iPad with the Apple USB to Lightning connectors (supplied with iPad).
Are your cables Lightening or the older 30 pin type?

Which USB charging port did you use when trying to charge the iPad? Needs the higher current port.

I'm pretty sure both are capable of the higher current.

I just tried again using both ports, pushing reset button, connecting, disconnecting, still no go.

Is the unit fully charged?
The cables your using work on the standard wall plug? (silly question but perhaps your cable is no good!)

Just to answer some of the other questions that have been brought up in regards to instructions......

It has an auto power up so it turns itself on when a device is plugged in. However I have found it prefers you to plug your lead into the device and THEN plug the lead into the charger.
It auto shuts down once there is no current being drawn....IE the device is fully charged.
The only button on the front of the unit is a 'reset' charge and capacity display.
Both usb outlets are capable of 2.1amp but will only deliver around 3.5 in total when charging two devices.

Yep, charged up to full last night.

Checked this. Yes, cables work on wall chargers.

DanShell wrote:However I have found it prefers you to plug your lead into the device and THEN plug the lead into the charger.

Tried both combinations. No good. I might have a dud, although it works on my phone and GPS with their own cables.

This might explain it.
Both camera and iPad are at about 90-95% full. It could be they are not pulling enough current although they both respond when plugged in to the wall chargers.
I'll discharge the iPad battery down to around 50% and see if it works then.

Bingo :D I hope that does it. Although mine will light up the charge symbol even if only briefly when fully charged.

There's always the possibility of being faulty. It happens with these electronic devices. Even if it was due to auto cut off, 90-95% is a bit low to have it activated.

Bumping up this topic as I've found a couple of Xiaomi battery bank accessories I thought are worth the mention:

A silicone wrap around case that comes in a variety of colours.

http://xiaomi-mi.com/accessories-powerb ... -original/

The case is great for me as it means stops the battery bank in my pack from scratching up other gear with it's aluminium case. I got a black one originally then told Danshell about it a while back, and he got an orange one that looked good so I went and ordered one for myself as well. The slots on the reverse side are not intended as a belt holder as I originally thought, but are a clever way to store your flat Xiaomi USB cable together with the powerbank in your pack so it doesn't get lost.

An LED USB light http://en.miui.com/thread-49148-1-1.html http://xiaomi-mi.com/accessories-powerb ... -led-blue/

Image
The LED light weighs under 20g, and outputs a really bright light. While it is on, it consumes around 0.20A - 0.30A from my testing.

As with a few products now, there are fakes out there - the genuine Xiaomi LED lamp uses the power/status button on the Xiaomi powerbank to turn on and off. Fake ones will turn on when plugged in to the USB, and will not turn off until removed.

Here is my Xiaomi 10400 with the orange silicone case, and the orange LED. Both were around about the $3-$4 mark each, although I've noticed a few sellers discounting it now (maybe it's due to the devaluing Chinese Yuan).

Loving the power bank. Absolute ripper out on the trail.

Unless I'm going blind, I can't see the price for the cover. How much did you pay for it, mate?

John - I paid $3.30 for mine, but I see that the seller has dropped the price to $1.95 now.

If I had remembered, I would have shown it to you when you came around to pick up the jacket! I saw the case in Singapore, but it was going for around about $7 from the Xiaomi store, so I passed, but at better than half price now.

Here's the link I send Dan http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ultra-Slim-S ... 1300657226 Takes a couple of weeks to arrive.

I got it from these guys http://www.banggood.com/Original-Xiaomi ... 50793.html The price has come down since I got mine, and it's around AUD$2.80 now. Darn it.

There's a couple of links on their website saying how to check for the fakes/copies as well.
