Wow - looks like there are some new kayaking opportunities in Tasmania after the release of the new Google Maps. You can now paddle between Melaleuca and Freney Lagoon!

Seems like wetlands from LIST data have been added as 'lakes'!

I expect they are getting in ahead of sea level rise.

Looks like they have used LIST data and marked all “Wetlands/wet areas” as lakes. Hopefully they will fix it soon.

Central plateau is looking especially wet!

I am also struggling to figure out what these brown patches mean - doesn't seem to line up with any vegetation type or anything else obvious.

If you go to ESRI imagery on ListMap, those patches more or less match two ends of a big brownish patch which is a mix of bare rock and low sedge/heath. It could also be old burns. But, again, some iffy big blue bits on that image. It's frightening.

After this update the contour lines on Google's Terrain layer (which is only available on Mobile as far as I know) are now so faint as to be unusable.

I think you should be able to get the terrain layer via the menu in the top left...
