OLT Plan

Postby d23 » Tue 13 Apr, 2021 1:24 pm

Hi all,

I am starting the OLT on the 17th and was after some feedback as to if the following is possible/

I was hoping to do the track in 6 days but for my last two days was planning the following:
Kia Ora to Echo Point- Is this too much?
Echo Point to Cynthia Bay

Thanks

Dave

It very much depends on how fast you are over the ground, but Kia Ora to Echo ... Kia Ora to Narcissus is fairly common, but with shorter days, possibly dubious weather, the extra from there to Echo would not be pleasant. The Lakeside Track is a lot slower going than people realise from looking at the map.

Its a walk in the park. If you're on a mission, some people run it in a day! But if you have set aside 6 days to walk the track, I'd spend the full 6 days and treat it as a holiday. There are so many awesome side trips, Ossa was the highlight for me but they're all really good, amazing places to visit.

Also if you do the 6 day itinerary, you'll get to know a lot of nice people and a comradery develops over the walk, which is also a special part of the experience.

Unless jaded, don't catch the ferry, the walk into Cynthia Bay is well worth the effort.

Thanks for that.

I am intending to walk to Cynthia Bay my transfer is at 2:30 though hence I was thinking of spending my last night at echo bay to shave a few hours off the last day

Echo Bay was also a highlight and not just for the scenery. Those that didn't catch the ferry, had become very comfortable in each others company and the banter/chat on that last night was hilarious.
