I'm thinking of deviating from the main road for this part of the walk so I am after a bit of local knowledge.
Are there any formed walking tracks or gated fire trails through here that will keep me off the public roads and 4WD tracks?
What are the best hard copy topo maps for this area and who sells them?

There is a 4x4 track from trial harbour thru Granville and I think it goes all the way to temma, I'm just unsure as to what it does near pieman heads. I'm sure there are others on this site with more knowledge.

Lady Mcgyver is the person to contact, she has done this walk a few times.
And yes, 4wd tracks only going from Granville (or even Trial) all the way to Temma.

Is the Western Explorer Rd busy in mid November or is it generally quiet outside tourist season?

I'll also be doing the Western Explorer in mid-November, from the 9th to the 12th. Landing in Launceston, I'll spend one day in Narawntapu, one day exploring the North Coast (Rocky Cape, Stanley) and then 2 days between Arthur River and Waratah. I'm looking for some nice day walks along the way (4 hours max I'd say), any ideas ? I was thinking about the Mt Donaldson walk, listed here : http://www.corinna.com.au/walks/ , how about the Philosophers Falls, are they worth it ? Thanks.

It's OZIEXPLORER, and yes they use the 1:100's.

The coastal walking between Couta Rocks and Sarah Anne Rocks or between Nelson Bay and the Sundown River mouth are all fantastic.

Thanks, those are two short walks near Couta Rocks, they must be about 30 min each ? I'm also looking for a nice camping spot near the Corinna/Walatah/Tullah area. Some people suggested to camp at Trial Harbour, but I'd like one night of camping near the forest instead of near the beach.

It's coastal walking 10 minutes to 10 hours!!! Whatever you choose. It's certainly feasible to walk from Couta to Sundown Point return in an easy day.

Great, do you know this camping spot : http://www.exploroz.com/Places/80841/TA ... _Road.aspx ? It's next to Mount Donaldson, I was thinking about camping there before doing the walk the next morning, but I can't find any info except its location.
