I can't find any information about this track. Is it still used ? I have 3 days and was wondering whether to make a lake oberon circuit and use epsillon morrain track back to scotts peak. Any thoughts ?

The track is unmarked and not recommended. You will find it faster to head back via Moraine A.

I have descended Moraine E and in a word: don't. As suggested, if you are going up on top for a short amble, return the way you came - via Moraine A.

Thanks. Why is the route so bad ? Steep, over grown, boring ? or dangerous ? or just not intresting ? Just curious as it looks like it would make a nice loop.

I've been down Morraine E once - late 70's I think. It was a nice route and not too hard. It started from a large cave/tunnel on the range and then went down a very open spur. There was at least one section of scrub - which was a bit slow (I think we found a faint pad). At the bottom - there was a faint track across the buttongrass that took us right to the shelter at Junction Creek (this is now the upper campsite). It was quite a quick route. I can't imagine it has changed too much - except the track may now be a lot fainter? I would expect some parties to still use the route.

I think the National Parks Service prefer walks to go back via the hardened track via Hesperus and Morraine A - to keep all the wear in one place.

Sorry nate, I have been away walking. Overall, the descent via Moraine E is rather uninteresting; there are some scrubby sections and if it has been raining, (not an uncommon occurrence in those parts), you will be faced with a dull, wet walk across the button grass to Junction. All in all, the 'route' has little to recommend it and, as others have also commented, Parks would prefer walkers to use the hardened track back down Moraine A.
