Postby mattanitah » Fri 12 Dec, 2008 12:20 pm

Does anyone know how popular the lady lake hut is this time of the year. Was hoping to get up there for a visit next weekend was hoping to get a spot in the hut, but will take a tent just incase. Also has anyone done any good with fishing in the lakes around there area....

Use the search field (top right) and search for "Lady Lake Hut" (quotes included). Lots of results. Skip the first page or so, to get to some more interesting results, including pictures of the hut, etc.

Essentially, it's on the edge of the Western Tiers, about 1.5 hours along Higgs Track (which continues on to Lake Nameless).

Sorry, that was a bit lazy of me. I'd never heard of it before, so I thought it was some obscure trappers hut.

Looks lovely.

Actually, I'd never heard of it before either, until the first post on it to these forums (taswaterfalls.com, I think?). I was so impressed, I've been there 3 times since.

I have just checked "Tasmanian Trout Waters" by Greg French (aka "The Bible") and according to that, Lady Lake has no fish.

Don't worry though because almost every other lake in the area has plenty of fish and the walking is easy and camping comfortable.
Lakes to try would be Lucy Long, Westons, Balmoral, Ironstone and Nameless, plus the blue peaks waters.

Thanks everyone for their replies,

the information you have provided has been great. I think i might tackle lucy long this weekend.
Hopefully will luck in with a bed in the hut, but am taking the tent incase. Really should be using it as I have just brought all new gear ready to tackle some overnight walks and should be trying it out.

Cheers

It really is a great hut. But don't expect much from the heater - it's really not much use, and just results in wasted metho, I reckon. The stove, on the other hand, is excellent!

Just returned from a trip to lady lake hut,

Was great, really nice spot and we really lucked in 20 degrees, hut was empty and caught a nice trout for lunch out of lake lucy long...

Does anyone know what the name of the lake is that you first come across on the higgs track past the lady lake hut. It is not named on my maps... I had a walk round this lake and spotted a couple of ripper trout in the creek running into it. Had no luck bagging one in this lake though.

The only thing I regret not catching this weekend was my wifes face on camera when she came across a good size tiger snake on the track up. haha

Cheers

Hi Matt,

Sounds like a nice trip. No name on any of my maps, online maps, google earth etc. How about we name it Lake Panorama? Let me know and I will write it on my maps and we will start something.

Assuming you mean the one on the right of the Higgs track as you walk from Lady Lake to Lake Lucy Long under Panorama Hill.

Cheers,

Andrew

Lake Panorama sounds like a fitting name, given it's position . Reasonable fishing area it seems
