hi, couple of noo-b questions:
-haven't camped on tent platforms before. whats the go with pegs? should i take some 2mm cord and tie around the wood, or are there attatchment points or something?
-how deep is the mud on the plains usually in late jan? anyone been there recently?
-many spots to fill up water along the way? or are all the ridges dry?

There's plenty of information on this question in another recent topic. In short, there should be plenty of rope/cable anchor points already attached to the platforms. The ropes usually have clips on the end, and you can tie knots, or wrap them around planks to get them to the ideal lengths for your tent.

Its very easy to pitch a tent on the platforms if your tent has shock cord on the attachment points (eg like Macpac tents of a few years back, the current models do not have this) - otherwise a bit of thin cord (venetian blind cord) would be handy. The Lake Cygnus platforms are different (older) than those further along which tend to have lots of small nails between the planks - good for hooking up guys to.

Water - should be plenty of water on the plains and at the base of the range - but on the tops - it depends on how recent has been rain. Sometimes it can be worth carrying a bit - eg on Beggary Bumps and Centaurus Ridge.

Mud - again it depends on how wet it has been. Sometimes you can walk to Junction Creek with dry shoes - sometimes they will get muddy.

Uh yeah the track to Junction Creek and along Mckays track is quite muddy at the moment.
Some parts are similar to the Lodden Plains if that rings a bell Though not as wide
There are numerous crossings of small creeks as well, so if it has rained recently they can rise a foot or two. get used to wading

We didn't have a problem with water either, running water all over the place. But the story could be different after a few clear days so there's not much point saying anything about it now.

so the walk was pretty sweet! perfect weather for the 7 days, only about an hour of mist one morning! mud and rivers weren't too bad, managed to get by with dry socks!
the shortcut from morraine k to mackays track wasnt much of a shortcut though, lots of burnt out scrub.

haha we did that as well. it was interesting to go off track for a while, but I dont think we chose the best spot to cross through all the burnt scrub.. My pack and arms were quite black
