Family overnighter for this break.

Postby the_camera_poser » Mon 31 Aug, 2009 6:54 pm

Ok. I love the rain. It's really nice. But........

It's flooded out the walks I wanted to do this holiday!!!! I had planned on taking the family to Lee's Paddock for a couple of nights in two weeks time, but based on the other Lee's Paddock thread, it'll be way too muddy for us. So what other overnight would people recommend, that would be of similar difficulty? I'm walking with a fit five-year old.

I had thought of Douglas-Aspley, but it'll be water-logged too.

Nicholls hut on the Mt Field east circuit is fairly easy access.

LOL LOL- I dunno Daz- I know about YOUR idea of easy......LOL

How's the leg?

That's a really good idea. I have it on my list of starter walks, but I was unsure of the track, never having spent any time there. Awesome!

Doesn't one have to cross the creek to get to/from the hut?

Looks like you cross the creek coming into Lake Nicholls. Is there some sort of bridge there? Fordable?

It's a rock hop. That's why I commented. If the Water level's high it might be awkward, especially for the kid.

You could always do the coastal route at Narawntapu. Or the stand wet-weather fallback: Freycinet.

Narwantapu is boring due to camping at the campground, but we have been meaning to camp there- for year now we go there regularly, but never camp.

Freycinet could be a good choice.

If you could get into the Scout Hut at Cradle, that's a short walk but it's probably booked out.

Or take the ferry over to Maria. It's easy walking and a lovely little place.
