Ragged Jack access issue

Postby bluewombat » Mon 20 Jan, 2020 3:17 pm

Hi all
I wanted to go for a wander up Ragged Jack today but there is a locked gate where Ragged Jack road leaves Ben Lomond road. It appears relatively new and there was nothing to indicate who it belongs to. Yellow with a box around the lock so possibly forestry. I have no idea if the other end of Ragged Jack road is blocked off. Oh well, plenty of other mountains out there
cheers

Forico are responsible - they have also placed a boom gate across Bessells Road stopping walks to the beautiful Sales lake area. These are two boom gates that I am aware of that Forico have put in place stopping access along roads that we have freely travelled on for years. What is going on? I would think these two roads would have been owned and installed by the Government.

I climbed Ragged Jack two weeks ago and gained access via English Town Rd from the Deddington end.

Yep, can confirm Ragged Jack Rd is open from English Town end. Nice walk, untracked once you get off the 4WD track, the section through the forest is well marked with cairns and red/white markers on trees, in the scree section I could only find a few cairns in the top section towards the notch, but straightforwards in any case. Well worth a jaunt up.

There is a locked gate at the northern end of Ragged Jack road, just off the Ben Lomond road.

Yes, that is what the rest of this thread is about. Access is now practical only from English Town.
