A week at melaleuca

Postby Jacnicolson » Tue 29 Sep, 2020 7:39 am

Having decided we have missed the window in our lives to work the south coast track I’d be pleased to hear ideas about flying in and out of melaleuca, camp maybe a week without paying excessive guided group tour costs. Group of four fit/health 70 yo.

Plenty of great day walks from Melaleuca - just have a read of Chapmans book which outlines a number of walks (these are not day walks but you can adapt and turn them into day walks). The other option is to undertake the South Coast track if you are fit and experienced - just allow more days and have rest days on the way. Alternatively you could base yourselves around the Melaleuca area and do 1 or 2 night trips out. Some options include: Walk on SCT to Point Eric and stay for 1-2 nights -its a beautiful spot. Then back towards Melaleuca then do the Wilson Bight track to New Harbor and perhaps along the coast at a slow pace camping overnight. Plenty of options as long as you are capable at some navigation and comfortable to walk with a pack.
